The BIOFABRIS is a National Institute of C&T in Biomanufacturing. It has a multidisciplinary character,
located at the Chemical Engineering Campus of UNICAMP, which aims to integrate computational tools, synthesis, and the development of novel biomaterials, and application of engineering techniques to obtain biomedical devices (orthopedic prostheses and orthoses) and biological substitutes to living tissues or human organs that are defective or missing.
The multidisciplinary approach is an obvious feature that requires the formation of a heterogeneous team with expertise in the specialties involved, and mainly the assiduous cooperation among the participating groups.
The concept of biomanufacturing consists in developing engineering techniques adopting bioinspired strategies through the mimicry of living structures, both in form and in function, to reproduce parts of the human body in both the macroscopic (anatomy) and microscopic (scaffolds) aspects that contribute to the tissue growth. Based on this approach, the creation of BIOFABRIS is an initiative that will benefit the general public, with the possibility of greater assistance to needy communities, specific groups, or victims of work or traffic accidents.
Our team counts on researchers in the medical and dental areas, engineers, biologists, among others.
